The Privacy and Trust Network (PTN) is an association which aims to certfiy its members as adhering to the trust and privacy policy we define, as stated here.
Anonimity should not be about which Gang holds your personal data. Your personal data should not be held centrally by any pool of entities, whether they claim to ethical and trustworthy or not.
The PTN policy and guideline is simply that each entity should NOT share information for a common purpose.
We do NOT suggest, recomend or endorse that our members should pool together to share your information and maximise on its exploitation. Our policy is the exact opposite. We believe as an individual or entity, you have the right to a seperate identity which each entity you deal with. Just because you may be a slow payer with one supplier/store, or have several returns with another, doe snot mena you are a bad custoemr, or liek that with any other stores.Perhaps they are just bad companies, with inferior products or misleading sales blurb, in your opinion.
You are not in cotnrol of how any such blacklists or hot prospect lists are generated or maintianed or shared. You have no knowledge of the aggragate value of such disemetric information gathered by what you deem as unconnected parties.
Even within a bank, you have the option of opting out (or preferably not opting in) to offers from "other" entities within the group.
As the Intenert and eTransactions are SO easy to catalougue and aggregate (automated), this becomes even more prevelent in an eWorld - where you are the eTransactions you make.
Whilst it might be commercially nice for them to aggregate your data for commercial exploitation, it is of no use to you.
This abuse goes under many guises, usually billed as being helpful to shortlist the offer you will more probably like. But in whose opinion? The algorithms in a machine? Shouldn't you be able to decide for yourself, what the top choices are that you want to pick from?
If these deomographics are out of date, or wrong, you may never get the offers you deserve, as you'll be in-undated (or at least distracted by) with what they think they can palm off on you. Trend prediction is an essential part of commerce. But it should be anonymous, or else it is just an easy pickings listing.
If data is not 100% anonomous, it should not be pooled.
That is our sole mission!
Our members verify that they follow this simple guideline.
The central register ensures that practice is up-to-date and allows for users to complain if they are not and action to be taken.
